Session: Joomla!TM Hosting and Security
Instructor: Chris Adams
Training Track: Joomla! Core CMS
Audience: Administrators
This session will tackle hosting and security issues when it comes to operating your Joomla website. Topics covered will include server-level security tools (like PHP’s open_basedir and Apache’s mod_security) as well as highlighting the benefits of running PHP in CGI mode with su_php for both security and file ownership/permissions reasons.
Real world examples of compromised Joomla sites will be used and details provided on how you can avoid a similar fate by using a properly configured server. Things you can do to further secure your Joomla install at the hosting account level will also be covered, including properly locking down certain directories, functions like the Joomla FTP Layer and other key security tips. The threat to your Joomla site caused by vulnerable third-party extensions will be discussed.
Tips and ticks on driving the best performance to your Joomla website will be covered too. Important issues like selecting the right type of storage for optimal throughput, deploying caching tools like Alternative PHP Cache (APC) – as well as downsides to these – will all be discussed. The importance of selecting the right backup solution and why RAID is not enough will be touched on as well.
