While online forums, social networking sites and IMs are smart communication tools, it's important for us all to take a break from time to time to do things the "old fashioned" way: meet people face-to-face. Sure FaceBook and Twitter are fantastic to touch base, but they still doesn't replace the face-to-face value of a building stronger relationships, shaking hands or sharing a laugh over cocktails. While skin-deep gateway measures like Twitter, Skype and forums might be great to attract new clientele, remember that it is face-to-face contact which will go the extra mile to retain them. If you're looking to build those foundational values such as equity, trust and fierce loyalty, then face-to-face is way to truly build not just a mere web presence, but sustainable longevity in the marketplace. Whether you're an educational institution, a recruiting or consulting firm, a technology or creative shop, nothing replaces face value. Ask yourself, if the web, phone, mail and broadcast media were enough to secure someone's lasting support, why would political candidates invest hundreds of millions of dollars, criss-crossing the country in the quest for votes? They know the value of face-to-face contact, and that for every ONE HANDSHAKE made, that translates into 25 stories told, and ten votes garnered. It all starts - and ends - with skin contact, folks. Of course, it's critically important to use your face-time wisely, making sure that the events you attend are not "hit or miss." From a business perspective, you must make sure that the people you're going to see are capable of helping you sustain your enterprise for the long-term.
If you've already signed up for CMS Expo as an attendee or sponsor, great decision! If you haven't signed up for CMS Expo yet, there's no time like the present!
